Food Forward Europe

Through legal advocacy and strategic litigation, Food Forward Europe aims to redirect EU subsidies away from intensive farming towards sustainable agriculture and plant-based food systems.

EU subsidies mostly supports intensive farming. 82% of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funds go to livestock sector, amounting to €45 billion a year.

70% of total agriculture greenhouse gas emissions come from the livestock sector, and EU Climate law has binding reduction targets of a 55% reduction by 2030, until 100% by 2050.

70% of CAP funds comes from EU citizens’ taxes whereas 83–90% of these tax-payers oppose factory farming practices. Food Forward Europe aim to use strategic litigation to redirect subsidies to sustainable plant-based food system to align CAP post-2027 with EU Climate targets.
