Animal Storytelling for a Mainstream Audience (30 mins)

With Joanna Zelman

Joanna is the former Executive Producer of The Dodo which has 110 million followers across its digital platforms. In this session, Joanna will explore how to tell stories about animal online that attract a mainstream following.

Think in Ecologies, Not Silos: Connecting Our Work for Greater Impact (1 hour)

With Liz Flynn, VARC

Animal advocacy advances through diverse strategies: corporate campaigning, policy and legal work, plant-based innovation, diet change, and shifting public opinion. Each is vital, but too often they remain disconnected. To accelerate change, we need to see them as part of a broader ecology.

Drawing on the case of the Vegan & Animal Rights Conference (VARC) in the UK, Liz will share how creating infrastructure – spaces for convening, leadership development, and cross-strategy dialogue – has sparked new collaborations, initiatives, and changed perspectives within the UK movement.

4.30pm

10.00am

Code 4 Compassion

In one intensive day, hybrid teams – including online groups from all over the world joining via Discord – will develop working AI-powered solutions to accelerate plant-based food system transition. We’re not building concepts or presentations – we’re building functional prototypes that plant-based organisations can actually deploy to shift public opinion, support dietary change, and scale movement impact.
